The Madhouse Project Charity

WHO WE ARE

In 1996, Phil Friedman, John Fiala, Mitch Morando, Brad Newcomer and Kurt Shintaffer graduated from the University of Washington and moved into a house in the Madison Valley neighborhood of Seattle that was affectionately nicknamed “The Madhouse.” After living at The Madhouse for a couple of years, pursuit of careers and continuing education had spread them across the country.

By 2004, all of them had returned to Seattle and were looking for a personally meaningful cause that they could dedicate their time and energy to, once again as a group. Given that each of their lives had been affected by cancer, it didn’t take long to determine that they wanted to focus their efforts on the fight against cancer .

In 2005, The Madhouse Project was formally organized as a non-profit corporation supporting the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and held the first annual Night Out For a Cure cocktail reception and silent auction. Through the generosity of guests, donors and corporate sponsors, that first event raised over $16,000 for the benefit of the SCCA.

Today, the Madhouse Project and our annual Night Out For a Cure fund-raising event represents the efforts of a large group of passionate people and companies that have donated time, energy, money, auction items, and have spread the word to other people that believe in the cause. The Night Out For a Cure event now raises more than $150,000 each year to support the SCCA and its mission of providing world-class treatment for cancer patients.

The directors of the Madhouse Project are John Fiala, Erin Friedman, Phil Friedman, Brad Newcomer, Kurt Shintaffer, and Randy Tennant.

Thank you for your support and generosity.
